The challenge
Large volumes of program and course information need to move from legacy registers into a new repository without carrying forward inconsistent structures or relying entirely on manual effort.
Existing environment
A current institutional repository implementation involving legacy curriculum records, transformation rules, validation activities and cross-functional stakeholders.

Solution architecture
Design decisions
Information mapping comes before tooling so automation follows agreed curriculum rules.
Repeatable records are candidates for scripted or assisted migration; ambiguous records remain visible for human review.
Validation and exception handling are part of the migration flow rather than final clean-up activities.
The approach is being designed around traceability so transformed information can be checked against its source.
Experience design
Project teams gain a clearer path from source records to validated repository data, with manual attention focused on exceptions and judgement rather than repetitive transfer.
Implementation
Current work includes source analysis, field mapping, transformation planning, quality checks and investigation of scripting and AI-assisted techniques that could safely reduce migration effort.
Outcome
The project is establishing a governed migration approach and identifying where automation can improve speed and consistency without weakening human review.
What I learned
Successful migration is an information-design problem first: automation becomes useful only after structures, rules and quality thresholds are understood.
