Overview
The Module Icon Maker was another Arkansas-developed tool that I adapted and rebuilt to work within Blackboard Ultra at UNDA. The goal was to give academic staff the ability to create consistent, accessible icons for modules and folders in their courses. Constraints included Blackboard’s limited HTML/CSS support and the need for compatibility across devices.
Process
- Adapted the Arkansas solution and refactored the code in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to function within Ultra’s environment.
- Simplified the workflow for staff, reducing steps required to create and apply icons.
- Tested with staff in live Ultra courses to refine usability and ensure accessibility.
- Designed and built a feature to upload custom images for the module images for staff to customise.
Outcome
The Module Icon Maker helped academics improve the look and clarity of their course organisation. It supported consistent design patterns across the LMS, making courses easier to navigate for students while giving staff an accessible and quick way to enhance their teaching materials.
